Serving Up Great Food at the US Open!
My fellow tennis fans, the time has come for the greatest tournament of the year: the US Open! Being the last grand slam tournament of the year, the Open marks a special time for tennis players and fans alike as the season comes to a close. And as a New Yorker, I am fortunate to have this amazing tournament right in my backyard!
For the next two weeks, the US Open grounds will house not only the world's best tennis players, but also countless food vendors to satisfy the mid-match munchies. To get the scoop on the best food at the tournament this year, I spent this past week bouncing between practice sessions and food vendors during the playoffs week. While running to watch sessions with Nadal and Federer, I compiled a list of the best bites for you to enjoy during the matches next week! Enjoy!
Ordered: Sweet Potato and Barley Grain Bowl (pictured above)
Review: This is one of my favorite lunch options at the tournament-- I even ate it more than once! With local, sustainable, and grass-fed ingredients, the quality shines through with incredible flavors and freshness. In my opinion, these bowls are on the large side, so save this place for lunch to fully enjoy these great ingredients.
Ordered: The 163 Burger
Review: With their use of local beef from LaFrieda in New Jersey and hamburger buns from Hot Bread Kitchen in New York City (one of my all-time favorite bakeries that serves bread at my school!), Fuku elevates the classic burger with these amazing ingredients! As I am already a big fan of Hot Bread Kitchen because of their social work, I highly recommend trying this burger along with learning more about the great companies behind its ingredients!
Dean and Deluca:
Ordered: by Chloe Popsicles
Review: Conveniently located in the center of several tennis courts, this is the perfect place to grab snacks between sets! They offer a large variety of sandwiches and salads along with irresistible desserts. I highly recommend grabbing a delicious, and healthy, popsicle from by Chloe to cool down during these hot August days.
Frozen Lemonade Stands:
Ordered: Frozen Lemonade!
Review: Even though the Open is dominated by Lavazza coffee because of the company's sponsorship of the event, my favorite drinks were the hand-made frozen lemonades. With stands sprinkled around the grounds, these drinks are a perfect way to stay hydrated while also satisfying any sweet tooth!
