Olio: The Food Saving Revolution
Throughout my time researching food waste, it is no question that most of the initiatives I come across originate in England. Following this trend, I just discovered the app Olio that attacks a major source of food waste that is hard to target. Unlike other programs that target excess food from farms, this app helps connect consumers with food that will go to waste on the commercial level. Co-founders Tessa Cook and Saasha Celestial-One attack the problem from two fronts: saving food from supermarkets and from households. Through the app, volunteers post food either from their house or on behalf of a store and other users can arrange to take it. Make sure to check out the app and start the initiative in your city!
